I am on dialysis and have on several occassions missed a week or more and felt fine...is this normal?

I have been on dialysis for over 2 years (1 yr on PD and 1 yr on HD) and have gone without dialysis for at least a week on several occassions. I have never felt any symptoms from not going to dialysis. If I did stop going to dialysis is there a guarantee that I would begin to feel symptoms at some point before death? I would like to "know" WHY I am going through the trouble of dialysis, because dialysis has thus far been the only negative effect I have felt due to my CKD.
