Is there anything i can do about this? and if so is it to late?

at the start of the 2010-2011 school year i started to have some problems that lead to a alot blood work being done. because of a test mix up the doctors were saying that my kidneys were failing and that i needed to be put on dialysis and that i would need a transplant. seeing how i was only seventeen i didnt think much about doing anything seeing how my mom claims that a lawyer said so. but i just wanted to ask is there anything that i could do legal wise?
