Open source video editing software?

I'm doing a movie project for school but all of the video that we took are in an mov file format. I know the win 7 movie maker supports this format but i hate what they did since the xp version. and the xp version wont support this format. So i need to use a software that supports this format but has more of a timeline layout. I tried jahshaka and for some reason it wont run on my computer so if there is something else it would be appreciated.
