What do you call the way people of a certain time era speak?

Everything from the way the English spoke during the medieval times, to the 1970's with people saying things like, "Outta sight" to people in the 90's saying "Psych" . What is that called? I know of the terms like accent, mannerisms, etc. But is there a name for the way people talk in relation to the times?
