My father has been told he will be placed on dialysis 3 times per week, how much longer will he live?

My fathers family is in Mexico, when he is placed on dialysis will he still be able to visit them? I think with this news about him going to be on dialysis is killing him in life because he loves travel with my Mom and now he thinks he will not be able to because he will have to be at the clinic 3 times per week and I assume for the rest of his life. Since I am new to this and of course will start reading up on this, my question is also will he be able to travel at all while on dialysis and how many years of life will he have left. The entire family is very sad about the news the doctor gave him about placing him on dialysis. The doctor told him that first he thought it would be a while before he go to that point but he fell ill in the hospital and because they gave him so many antibiotics it just damaged now both his kidneys and that is why he is going to be put on dialysis sooner. ; - (
