Do many or most people in the west now look at the "Cold War" news broadcasts as government "Brain washing"?

I remember a movie I watched as a kid named Red Dawn, it had Sheen and Swayze in it and it was big time propaganda that was anti-Russian during the Cold War. Now I see America has grown into everything they painted the Soviet Union out to be.
