Why didn't the yankees resign Chad Gaudin?

Something's confusing me. He had an awesome ERA, a great number of strikeouts, and a very low number of RBIS and walks given up. Although he did give up very few homeruns in the season, it was still great to have him on the team. Our pitching sucks anyway, why not bring him back?
